Galileo: Europe's Non-Military Satellite Navigation System

Galileo is a European Union initiative to create a non-military alternative to GPS and GLONASS. Currently, it has two test satellites, with plans to launch four validation satellites. These satellites test critical hardware, including high-accuracy clocks. The system will eventually consist of 27 satellites, with 3 spares, providing global navigation services. It will work alongside GPS for enhanced reliability, with a subscription service offering 1-meter accuracy for professionals.
