The Colombian government and the ELN guerrilla group have agreed to resume peace talks, as announced by Colombian authorities after a meeting in Havana. This decision follows the election of Gustavo Petro, who advocates for new peace agreements and ending the war on drugs. In response, the ELN released nine captives in Arauca. Peace talks initially began in 2017 but were halted in 2019 after a police school attack. Despite a peace deal with FARC reducing violence, illegal activities by armed groups persist.
