Afghanistan's public universities have reopened with limited female attendance. Previously, only private universities were allowed to operate with gender-segregated classes. Public universities in six eastern provinces have resumed, with others set to reopen on February 26. This follows discussions between the Taliban and Western diplomats in Norway. The Taliban claim to have modernized since their previous regime (1996-2001), but recent actions show continued repression of women's rights, including restrictions on work, education, and travel.
