In Chile, weekly protests continue with around 2,000 people gathering at Plaza Italia in Santiago, leading to clashes with police. During a recent protest, a young man fell into the Mapocho River while allegedly fleeing from police, resulting in serious injuries. The protests, which began in October 2019, demand greater social rights and have resulted in numerous casualties. The unrest has prompted the government to call a plebiscite on October 25 to decide on drafting a new constitution to replace the one from Pinochet's era.
