Israel's President Chooses Netanyahu To Form New Government

After a deadlock in the recent elections, Netanyahu accepted the mandate to form a new government. The final results showed Netanyahu's Likud party with 32 seats, while Gantz's Blue and White party secured 33. President Rivlin suggested a coalition government with Netanyahu and Gantz alternating as Prime Minister. However, talks between the two failed. Netanyahu still believes a unity government is the best solution and has 28 days to form a coalition, needing at least 61 of the 120 lawmakers. If unsuccessful, a third election this year is possible.
