VOICED : ELN reanudara su actividad guerrillera en medio de pandemia en Colombia

The ELN announced the resumption of operations in Colombia after a ceasefire in April, following a global truce suggested by the UN due to the COVID-19 pandemic. They requested the return of their peace negotiators from Cuba with security guarantees. The Colombian government, led by Iván Duque, did not engage in negotiations during the ceasefire. Duque had previously ended peace talks initiated by his predecessor, Juan Manuel Santos, after a deadly attack on a police academy. Colombia demanded Cuba extradite the ELN negotiators, straining diplomatic relations. The Colombian government requires the release of hostages and cessation of ELN activities to resume talks. Meanwhile, Colombia reported 5,400 COVID-19 cases and nearly 250 deaths since March 6.
