Malik Faisal Akram, a 44-year-old from Blackburn, England, traveled to the US, arriving at JFK Airport on December 29th. He then went to Dallas, where he acquired a handgun and stayed in homeless shelters. On January 15th, Akram entered the Congregation Beth Israel Synagogue in Colleyville, Texas, and took hostages, demanding the release of Afia Sadiq. After hours of negotiation, one hostage was released. Later, the rabbi and remaining hostages escaped, and Akram was shot by the FBI. All hostages were unharmed.
