VOICED : Irak: mas de 900 muertos en enero

In January, violence in Iraq claimed over 900 lives, three times more than in January 2013. A significant incident involved Iraqi forces ending a hostage situation by killing the attackers. The attackers, six armed men with explosives, had taken hostages in a public building. The attack was not claimed, but Sunni insurgents have previously targeted government buildings. Additionally, an attack near a Baghdad market resulted in six deaths and many injuries. Iraq faces increasing violence, raising fears of a return to the 2006-2007 conflict levels between Sunnis and Shias. The Sunni minority feels discriminated against by the predominantly Shia government.
