Rotary's Efforts to Eradicate Polio: A Global Partnership for a Polio-Free World

Polio remains a threat in parts of Africa and Asia, with 14 million children at risk in Ethiopia alone. Rotary International, in partnership with WHO and the UN, is working to immunize children under five. The oral vaccine offers lifelong protection, but rural areas face healthcare access challenges. Since 1988, polio cases have dropped from 125 countries to just seven. To eradicate polio, $1 billion is needed over three years for vaccines and surveillance. Rotary aims for a polio-free world by 2005, with members volunteering in immunization campaigns.
