The Panama Canal expansion is progressing despite uncertainties. A recent agreement between the SACIR-led consortium and the canal authority resolved a two-month conflict over a $1.6 billion cost overrun, which had halted work. The Spanish government was involved in negotiations. Initially set to finish in 2014, the project is now expected to complete by December 2015. The expansion will allow larger ships to pass, boosting trade and contributing significantly to Panama's fiscal revenue.
