Thomas Bak, president of the International Olympic Committee (COI), expressed disappointment over the Court of Arbitration for Sport's (TASS) decision to lift the lifetime suspension of Russian athletes accused of doping. The COI had previously banned 43 Russian athletes for alleged state-sponsored doping. However, 28 athletes successfully appealed the ban, allowing them to compete in the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics. Currently, 169 Russian athletes deemed clean are invited to participate under the Olympic flag. Bak emphasized that TASS's decision highlights the urgent need for reform in sports jurisdiction to ensure better quality and consistency in decisions.
