Guillermo Lazo, the opposition candidate for Ecuador's presidency, announced a likely second round in the elections as the electoral authority continues a slow vote count. Lazo met with supporters in Quito, who have been demanding transparency in the vote counting process. With 97.2% of the votes counted, the ruling party's Lenín Moreno has 39.31% of the valid votes, while Lazo has 28.25%. A second round is required if no candidate achieves 40% of the votes with a 10-point lead. If confirmed, the second round will occur on April 2.
