FIFA will elect a new president on February 26 next year during an Extraordinary Congress. Michel Platini, UEFA's president, is considering running for the position, with support from four confederations. Josef Vlater, who was re-elected in May, resigned after a scandal involving the arrest of seven officials. He confirmed he will not seek re-election. Former Brazilian footballer Zico has formally announced his candidacy.
