New research details what cells are more susceptible to the coronavirus

Researchers have identified cells in the lungs, nasal passages, and intestines that are more susceptible to SARS-CoV-2. Secretory cells in the nasal passages have RNA for proteins that COVID-19 targets. The virus may have mutated to exploit interferon, proteins released to fight infections. Enterocytes in the intestine, responsible for nutrient absorption, also express these RNAs, making them vulnerable to the virus.
