VOICED : ONU aprueba mision para supervisar la paz en Colombia

The UN Security Council unanimously approved a resolution to deploy observers for the Colombian peace agreement with the FARC. The mission will include 450 military observers, mainly from Latin America, to oversee the disarmament of 7,500 guerrillas and monitor the ceasefire. The peace agreement, negotiated over four years, will be signed by President Juan Manuel Santos and FARC leader Timoleón Jiménez on September 26 and ratified by a plebiscite on October 2. The peace process aims to end a 50-year conflict that resulted in 260,000 deaths, 45,000 disappearances, and 6.8 million displaced people.
