Fire Crews Protect Heavily-Populated Areas As California Fires Ease

In Southern California, diminishing winds aided fire crews in saving homes after over 100,000 residents evacuated due to fires starting Monday. By Wednesday, seven structures were burned, with one destroyed, in the Blue Ridge fire across Orange and San Bernardino counties. The fire threatened five communities, burning nearly 15,000 acres and was only 20% contained. Nearby, the Silverado Fire in Orange County was 25% contained, burning over 20 square miles without destroying homes. Two firefighters suffered severe burns and were hospitalized. Southern California Edison is investigating if its lines ignited the Silverado Fire near Irvine.
