US swimmer Florence Chadwick sets a record as she swims the English Channel in 1950

Florence Chadwick swam the English Channel, starting from the French coast with a fishing boat carrying 15 people, including her father. She reached the white cliffs of Dover, becoming the 32nd person to complete the swim. Chadwick broke the women's record by one hour and 11 minutes, surpassing the previous record set by Gertrude Italy in 1926.
