Yihad Diyab, a Syrian refugee in Uruguay and former Guantánamo prisoner, has been on a hunger strike for seven weeks, demanding to be relocated to a Muslim country to reunite with his family. He plans to escalate his protest by refusing liquids. Diyab blames the Uruguayan and U.S. governments for his plight and rejected Venezuela's offer to stay in their country with his family. He accuses Montevideo of not fulfilling promises made to him.
