Despite the challenges posed by piracy, it has inadvertently benefited local fishermen. However, Kenyan officials argue there is no direct link between piracy and the fishing boom, as local fishermen rarely venture into open waters previously dominated by foreign fleets. Regardless, the fishermen of Malindi remain optimistic about future catches.
