Marc Chagall, once erased from Soviet encyclopedias, is now celebrated in Moscow's Tretyakov Gallery. Born in Russia, Chagall gained recognition abroad, especially in France post-Revolution. His art, deeply rooted in Jewish culture, reflects his heritage. Despite ongoing antisemitism in Russia, Chagall's life exemplifies Jewish cultural contributions. After conflicts in the art world, he left Russia, becoming a proscribed artist. His first Moscow exhibition in 1987, two years after his death, was a public success.
