Bioluminescence is the light produced by living organisms due to a chemical reaction. It is common in marine animals like jellyfish, which use it to deter predators. Glow plankton also exhibit bioluminescence, creating glowing waves near coasts. Not all bioluminescent creatures are marine; fireflies on land also produce light.
