Tangin Kit received a nine-year prison sentence after crashing his motorcycle into police while carrying a protest banner. Democracy advocates express concern that the law under which he was sentenced threatens civil rights and free speech in Hong Kong. Although Hong Kong has its own judicial system and Legislative Council, China imposed this law to suppress dissent.
