U.S. Executes 13th Inmate After 17-Year Pause In Federal Executions

Dustin Higgs was convicted of ordering the murders of three women in 1996 and was executed in early 2021. His execution was part of a series of federal executions that resumed in 2020 after a 17-year pause. Despite maintaining his innocence, Higgs was the third person executed in a week. President-elect Joe Biden has indicated plans to end federal executions, making it unlikely that the remaining 50 men on federal death row will be executed.
