The Treaty of Ghent

The Treaty of Ghent, signed in December 1814, ended the War of 1812 between the US and Great Britain. Despite the treaty, fighting continued due to delayed news, leading to the Battle of New Orleans. The treaty restored pre-war conditions and was ratified in February 1815. It had significant impacts, including the freeing of American slaves, the loss of British support for Native Americans, and the strengthening of US infrastructure. The treaty also marked the start of the Era of Good Feelings in US politics.
