Scientists create monkey chimera with human cells

The study published in the journal Cell details the implantation of human cells into monkey embryos, creating chimeras. The process involved reprogramming mature cells into stem cell-like states. Initially, 132 chimeric embryos were formed, with human cells comprising about 4% of the embryos. Over time, the number of viable embryos decreased, and all were destroyed by day 20 for ethical reasons. Researchers consulted bioethicists and chose to grow the embryos in a lab environment, preventing further development.
