During the Blitz, London faced attacks from the Luftwaffe. A disused underground station near Piccadilly became a secret base for railway executives and Winston Churchill. The station ensured the operation of essential trains and served as a secure location for Churchill to rest, read, and meet with the war cabinet. Despite his reluctance, Churchill's presence was deemed crucial. The shelter, equipped with kitchens, was operational until 1947, remaining a secret from the public. Today, remnants of its wartime use are still visible.
