Natural gas is a crucial non-renewable energy source, second only to oil in the Arab world. In 2014, the Arab region produced 565 billion cubic meters of natural gas, with reserves making up 28.6% of the global total. The African Arab region contributed 25.5% of this production, while the Asian Arab region accounted for 74.5%. Qatar led the production with 31.3%, followed by Saudi Arabia at 19%, and Egypt ranked fifth.
