Officials announced that students must have state-required vaccinations to return to school after winter break. A letter was sent to 2300 students in the district, requesting updated medical records. The CDC reported nearly 1300 measles cases in 2019, the highest since 1992. Washington State reported 87 cases and allows exemptions for religious and medical reasons, but not personal preference. Seattle Public Schools will mark students without updated vaccinations as unexcused and offer free immunization clinics to help families comply.
