After World War 2, Korea was divided at the 38th parallel, with the Soviets in the north and Americans in the south. In 1948, North Korea was established under Kim Il Sung. In 1950, influenced by the Soviet Union and China, North Korea invaded South Korea, leading to the Korean War, which ended in a stalemate. During the Destalinization period, Kim Il Sung faced opposition but consolidated his power, leading to North Korea's independence.
