Eugene Bullard: the First African American Military Pilot

Eugene Bullard, the first African American military pilot, was born in 1895 in Columbus, GA. His early life was marked by struggles, leading him to run away at age 11. He later joined the French Foreign Legion during World War One, where he fought bravely and was wounded. Bullard's determination led him to become a pilot in the French Flying Service in 1916. Despite his achievements, he faced racial prejudice when attempting to join the US Air Service. He returned to the French military but was removed after a confrontation with an officer.
