The Colombian Senate postponed the debate on same-sex marriage legislation due to the lack of public television coverage. Prior to this, supporters and opponents of the proposal held demonstrations in Bogotá, separated by police to prevent clashes. The Conservative Party and a majority of the National Unity Party have agreed to vote against the bill. The Catholic Church also opposes the proposal in a predominantly Catholic country. Since 2007, homosexual couples in Colombia have had the same social, patrimonial, and inheritance rights as heterosexual couples, but they cannot marry or adopt children.
