In 2014, 66 journalists were killed worldwide, with Syria being the deadliest country. Although the number of killings decreased from the previous year, kidnappings rose by 37%. Mexico ranks fifth in danger for journalists, following Ukraine, Libya, Syria, and Iraq. Regions with militia presence, like ISIS in Syria and Iraq, are particularly perilous. Libya and eastern Ukraine also pose significant risks. Venezuela is second in threats and assaults on journalists and fifth in detentions. Colombia's Antioquía is among the most dangerous areas for journalists.
