In the Indonesian presidential elections, both candidates, Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and Prabowo Subianto, declared themselves winners. Initial opinion polls showed Jokowi leading with 53% over Prabowo's 47%. However, Prabowo disputed these results, citing his party's polls. This election is significant as Jokowi is the first candidate without ties to the past authoritarian regime. Jokowi, a modest family man and Jakarta's governor, faces Prabowo, a former military man and Suharto's son-in-law. Prabowo's campaign, which questioned Jokowi's religious identity, was effective. The official winner will be announced between July 21 and 22.
