The industry relies heavily on advanced technology from the US, which is currently inaccessible. However, the thawing of US-Cuba relations brings hope for future collaborations. Cuba is eager to partner with American companies to explore its oil opportunities. Currently, Cuba produces 25 million barrels of heavy oil annually, mainly used for electricity, cement, lubricants, and asphalt production.
