Italy is experiencing one of its worst droughts, affecting agriculture and even the Vatican. The crisis stems from irresponsible water use in Rome, not from fountains, which aid sewer systems. The current dry season is the second worst in 60 years, with a loss of 20 billion cubic meters of water, equivalent to Lake Como. To prevent ecological disaster in Lazio, water intake from Lake Bracciano has been halted. Water levels have significantly dropped, impacting agriculture and livestock, with losses exceeding 2 billion euros. Ten regions have requested disaster status for tax relief and compensation.
