On January 13, 2012, the Costa Concordia began its cruise around the Mediterranean. The ship, with 4200 passengers and crew, collided with a rocky outcrop near the Italian island of Giglio. Panic ensued as alarms signaled to abandon ship. Passengers, including Stefania Venzi and her mother, faced challenges in escaping. Despite efforts to board lifeboats, chaos and the ship's tilt complicated rescue attempts. Infrared footage captured the dramatic escape of survivors swimming to shore. Tragically, Stefania's mother did not survive.
