Thurgood Marshall was the first African American Supreme Court Justice. Born in Baltimore in 1908, he faced racial challenges throughout his education, including being denied entry to the University of Maryland Law School. He became a prominent civil rights lawyer, famously arguing Brown v. Board of Education, which ended school segregation. Appointed by JFK and LBJ, he served as a judge and solicitor general before becoming a Supreme Court Justice in 1967. Marshall's legacy includes significant contributions to civil rights and justice.
