In the past week, the world saw a record number of COVID-19 cases, averaging 935,000 daily, largely due to the Omicron variant. Despite increased testing, many mild or asymptomatic cases remain undetected. While cases have risen by 37% globally, deaths have decreased, with an average of 6,450 daily, the lowest since October 2020. The WHO suggests actual pandemic-related deaths could be two to three times higher than reported. Over two years, more than 282 million cases and 5.4 million deaths have been officially recorded worldwide.
