In Islamabad, Islamic extremists protested violently against the execution of Mumtaz Qadri, who killed a secular governor. The protests, led by the Sunni group Teherék, demanded strict application of sharia law and the execution of Asia Bibi, a Christian woman accused of blasphemy. Despite government warnings, the protests continued, paralyzing parts of the capital.
