Mexico has announced new environmental measures to combat pollution in the capital and metropolitan area. These include a historic reforestation effort of 18 million trees to create windbreak barriers and consolidate a green belt from 2016 to 2018. Due to pollution levels not seen in 13 years, a contingency was declared in March, restricting the circulation of over 5 million vehicles. Efforts to improve the vehicle fleet continue, with plans to replace 1,000 old taxis with hybrids. Additionally, 26 anti-pollution norms for industries will be updated, along with new emission regulations for private vehicles.
