The satellite's instruments can view a 185 km wide swath and capture images as it orbits Earth. It travels at 4.7 miles per second, moving from north to south over the sunlit side and south to north over the dark side. Each orbit takes 99 minutes, allowing for about 15 orbits in a day. The orbit is designed so that the entire Earth's surface is viewed every 16 days, with the cycle repeating on the 17th day.
