Intro to Quotation Marks

When do we use quotation marks?

• To show how a person feels

• To show what a person says

• To show what a person thinks

Where do the quotation marks go?

• around the words each person said.

• around the whole sentence

• around who said the sentence.

What goes right before the first set of quotation marks?

• a period.

• an exclamation point!

   

• a comma,

What are you about to pay special attention to?

• the punctuation

• the spelling

• the girl's glasses

What happened to the punctuation in both cases?

• What punctuation?

• It's reversed.  Now the comma is before, not after.

• There is no punctuation.

Why is there a question mark inside the quotation marks?

• Because the dad is asking a question.

• Because the daughter doesn't understand
