Initially, Chubukov is thrilled, but a heated argument over land ownership ensues between Lomov and Natalya. Chubukov joins in, further escalating the situation. After Lomov leaves in anger, Natalya realizes her mistake and asks her father to bring him back. They reconcile, but another argument over their dogs begins.
