Over the past 25 years, American voters have become more racially diverse, better educated, less religious, and older. These demographic shifts have affected the Republican and Democratic parties differently. Non-white voters have increased more among Democrats, while education levels have risen faster within the Democratic party. The religiously unaffiliated group is growing, with a larger increase among Democrats. The aging population trend is more pronounced among Republicans. Overall, these changes have led to two political parties with increasingly distinct voter bases.
