Burning Man began in 1986 on Baker Beach, San Francisco, with 20 attendees and an 8-foot effigy. By 1991, it moved to Black Rock City, Nevada, growing to 250 people. By 2000, attendance soared to over 25,000, and the effigy reached 50 feet. In 2014, a 105-foot effigy was burned, with nearly 66,000 attendees. A tragedy occurred in 2017 when a man died after entering the flames. Despite this, attendance peaked at 79,000 in 2019. The 2020 event was canceled due to the pandemic, but half a million participated online.
