Rotation

• The movement of an object in a circular path around another object.

• The turning of an object about its own axis (between the North Pole and South Pole).

• The process of changing position from one place to another.

• The act of spinning an object without any axis.

Tide

• The regular rise and fall of water level of the ocean, in a cycle close to 12.5 hours.

• A sudden and extreme rise in water level due to storms.

• The movement of water caused by the gravitational pull of the moon and sun.

• A phenomenon that occurs only during full moons.

Lunar month

• The time period between the appearance of one new moon to the next, which equates to 29.5 days.

• The time it takes for the Earth to complete one rotation on its axis.

• The duration of a solar year, approximately 365.25 days.

• The time it takes for the Moon to orbit the Earth, which is about 27.3 days.

Revolution

• Movement around an orbit.

• A sudden change in government.

• A circular motion around a point.

• A significant increase in speed.

Summer solstice

• The day of the year with the most daylight hours.

• The shortest day of the year.

• A day when the sun is directly above the equator.

• A day when the night is longer than the day.

Spring tide

• A very high tide that occurs when there is a new or full moon.

• A low tide that occurs during the first and third quarters of the moon.

• A tide that occurs only during the summer months.

• A tide that is influenced by the Earth's rotation.

Solar system

• A group of bodies that revolve around a star.

• A collection of planets that orbit a black hole.

• A cluster of stars in a galaxy.

• A system of moons orbiting a planet.

Elliptical

• A circular shape; the shape of a basketball.

• An oval or egg shape; the shape of Earth’s orbit around the Sun.

• A square shape; the shape of a computer screen.

• A triangular shape; the shape of a pyramid.

Neap tide

• A stronger high and low tide that occurs when the Sun and the Moon are aligned with Earth.

• A weaker high and low tide that occurs when the Sun and the Moon are not in the same line as Earth.

• A tide that occurs only during a full moon.

• A tide that has no effect on the Earth's oceans.

Lunar eclipse

• Occurs when Earth moves between the Sun and the Moon so that some or all of the Moon’s surface does not receive light from the Sun and cannot be seen.

• Occurs when the Moon moves between the Earth and the Sun, blocking sunlight from reaching the Earth.

• Occurs when the Earth moves away from the Sun, causing the Moon to appear larger in the sky.

• Occurs when the Sun is directly behind the Earth, casting a shadow on the Moon.
