Continuing our "hand" theme from last time... We've got two hands here, and one is receiving something from the other. It's written 受ける。 This means...

Now let's write 受ける。Remember, it's supposed to be two hands, one holding something. Pronounced うける or じゅ

Is the verb 受ける (to receive) one-step or five-step?

Let's inflect　受ける。　　Remember that for 1-step verbs, we just take off the る　and add our endings.

What if you have two hands, but instead of one receiving something from the other, the first hand is holding onto it tightly and won't let the second hand have it? Why then you have "to compete"! This is あらそう　or　そう。
（The top used to be written the same as　受ける）
