"The Lion and the Mouse"
Once upon a time, a lion was sleeping in the jungle. A little mouse began running up and down on him. This soon woke the lion. The lion placed his huge paw upon the mouse and opened his big jaws to swallow him.
"Please forgive me, O King," cried the little mouse. "I shall never forget it. Who knows but I may be able to help you one day?"
The lion laughed at the idea but let him go.
Some time later, the lion was caught in a trap. The hunters tied him to a tree while they went to get a cart. Just then, the little mouse happened to pass by. Seeing the lion in trouble, he ran up and began to gnaw the rope. Soon the lion was free.
"You laughed when I said I would help you," said the mouse. "Now you see that even a little mouse can help a lion."

"The Ant and the Grasshopper"
In a field one summer's day, a Grasshopper was hopping about, singing and enjoying the sunshine. An Ant passed by, carrying an ear of corn he was taking to his nest.
“Why not come and chat with me,” asked the Grasshopper, “instead of working so hard?”
“I am helping to store food for the winter,” said the Ant, “and I advise you to do the same.”
“Why bother about winter?” said the Grasshopper. “We have plenty of food now!”
But when winter came, the Grasshopper found itself dying of hunger, while the ants had plenty to eat.
