What is a semicolon?

• It's half period and half comma. Nobody knows how to use it.

• It is a punctuation mark that always takes the place of and.

• It's a fancy comma used to confuse students. Often used in clauses or lists. Sometimes used to replace a comma.

• A semicolon (;) is a punctuation mark used to connect closely related independent clauses or to separate items in a list when those items are long or contain commas.
