Cleavage furrow

Chromosome

• A threadlike, gene-carrying structure found in the nucleus.

• A type of protein that helps in cell division.

• A small organelle responsible for energy production.

• A liquid substance that fills the cell and holds organelles.

Interphase

• A phase where the cell divides into two daughter cells.

• A period of time in between mitosis during which a cell grows and copies its DNA. Cell spends most of its time in this phase.

• The stage of cell division where chromosomes are separated.

• A phase where the cell prepares for apoptosis.

Centromere

• Area where the chromatids of a chromosome are attached.

• Region where DNA is replicated during cell division.

• Site of protein synthesis in the cell.

• Location of the cell's energy production.

Mitosis

• A type of cell division that results in two daughter cells each having the same number and kind of chromosomes as the parent nucleus.

• A process of cell division that results in four genetically different daughter cells.

• A mechanism for DNA replication that occurs during interphase.

• A type of cell division that only occurs in prokaryotic organisms.

Spindle fibers

• Help pull apart the cell during replication and are made up of microtubules.

• Are responsible for DNA replication in the nucleus.

• Form the cell membrane during cytokinesis.

• Are involved in protein synthesis in the ribosome.

Metastasize

• The process by which cancer spreads from one place to another.

• A type of cancer that is localized and does not spread.

• A treatment method for cancer involving radiation.

• A genetic mutation that causes cancer cells to grow.

Prophase

• Chromosomes become visible, nuclear membrane dissolves, spindle fibers form.

• Chromosomes align at the cell's equator.

• Chromosomes are replicated and form sister chromatids.

• Nuclear membrane reforms around the separated chromosomes.
